Here are some pictures of a cast iron shifter repair. The shifter fits in the headstock of a round dial Monarch 10EE. The shifter is controlled by the Thread Left/Feed/Thread Right selector knob on the front of the headstock. This was a finding in my restoration of a 1942 basket case 10EE I am attempting to restore. The casting was repaired by burying #10-24 socket head screws inside the casting arms. I counterbored with a 5/16” endmill for the socket head, drilled the base 13/64” for clearance, and then the #25 drill into the end piece of the arm before tapping. A spotting drill was used to establish the drill center in each case. As much as I hate to say it, this was all basically done by calibrated eyeball and a magic marker…fine point sharpie. I had no way to fixture both the parts as I drilled them, hence the clearance hole in the base part of the casting. We shall see how it works in actual operation.
