The BRBS_Arborxxx pictures show two arbors I made on my lathe for cutting gears on my Gorton. They are both 1" arbors. I've had horizontal gear cutters, but the indexer shown is too big for the Hardinge mill and my Hardinge indexing head is not complete The Gear is to replace the missing gear on the horizontal drive feed of my 16" Steptoe shaper. The Gear is 22 teeth on a 2" OD on a 1" shaft. I had to fudge a little without a true indexing head with plates. Dividing 360 by 22 is 16.363636... The divider in the pictures only has degree marking, so I went with 16 1/3 degrees apart, and tried to a The BRBS_FeedGearxxx pictures show the gear with teeth complete, checked for fit, and then the cogs on the face cut. As of this posting, I still have to fine-fit the gear face into the interlocking cogs on the shaper, but the involute teeth seem to be a Not too bad for my first ever gear, especially having to work around the tooling, and without any adult supervision. :) Ed Thomas
