Clausing_20_00.txt Here are pictures of moving a 20” Clausing drill press. It has the geared powerfeed option. Drill press was purchased from Procyon Machinery who sold an excellent condition machine at a very good price. All that was needed was cosmetic cleaning and a chuck I added. Pics 1-4 are “before” shots Pic 8,9 are unloading…due to the height of the trailer plus the height of the wooden pallet I built for stability, I could not get above the drill press to unload. I concocted a piece of channel bolted to the table’s T-slots, and close to the center of gravity. It was an unstable situation, but I spotted the drill press by hand while rolling the hoist back. Pic 11,12 are removing the drilling head, the hoist had barely enough height to remove the head from the column. I also spent time cleaning the drill press in this stage before moving it to the basement. I used CRC Natural Degreaser and some rubbing alcohol which worked quite well. Pic 13, is the base and table assembly on a refrigerator dolly. It was easily moved that way into my basement. I also used the refrigerator dolly to move the drilling head on a small wooden box to elevate the quill. Pic 14 is the reassembly process. I screwed a 2x6 to the floor joists above and used a come-along to lift the drilling head up and spot it while reinstalling it on the column. Pic 15 is the cleaned machine in its new home. I have it hooked to a VFD currently, the drill press will run from about 100 rpms up to 3000 rpms with the combination of the variable pitch Reeves-type belt drive plus the VFD. mattofvinings@aol.com 26 October 2005
