FILENAMES: 3phaseconv.bmp 3phaseconv2.bmp DESCRIPTION: These are two electrical diagrams of a rotary 3 phase converter. Posted by Ron Moore . Ron provided the following descriptions: ================================================================= -for 3phaseconv.bmp as posted 10 Aug 98 This is my version of a three phase rotary phase converter. I wanted to be able to remote control the unit from any outlet it supplied. By using the momentary contact switch to start and stop the unit and the latching relay to hold state, it is possible. One of the other problems of such devices is that the start cap contactor takes a lot of wear and drain resistors are usually used to help control contact burning. The Solid State Relay, by switching at zero crossing, eliminates these problems. There are several fine articles that have been posted by participants in the rec.craft.metal- working newsgroup on start and run cap sizing. I will not address that here. My were determined by trial and test, usually for heat and current draw. I hope this may give others ideas for their own units. Many thanks to Fitch Williams assistance. Good Luck. -for 3phaseconv2.bmp as posted 11 Aug 98 --- corrected version posted 21 Dec 98 A second version of the schematic is now in the "dropbox." It is labeled "3phaseconv2.bmp." It shows a modification to incorporate power failure protection. The first schematic will automatically reinitiate start up on power restoration. The second schematic cannot reinitialize without depressing the "ON" switch again. Both schematics was done in MS Paint. Hopefully, I will have a pic or two in a few days that I will post there. Respectfully, Ron Moore
