FILENAMES: gear.gif DESCRIPTION: Picture of a gearbox about which information is needed. Posted via Russ Kepler's account , for a friend I think. The following description was provided: =========================================================================== Can anyone out there help. I came across this device illustrated in a 1906 catalogue and it looks ideal for reversing model boats if suitably scaled down. <> The principle seems pretty straightforward. There is a cone clutch for forward and the grooved discs will give reverse, but I cannot figure out the method of control. The vertical operating lever engages in slots in the two rods shown at the right side of the open case illustration, but how these are connected to the cones is not clear. The accompanying write-up claims- no moving parts in neutral. No gears or dogs to engage or break. Gradual engagement for Astern gear. The Inscription on the case reads "Inder's Patent, Sole makers Simpson, Strickland, Engineers, Dartmouth". They offer sizes from 10 to 40 bhp. Thanks Brian Freegard
