FILENAMES: Jim1.jpg Jim2.jpg Jim3.jpg Jim4.jpg Jim5.jpg Jim6.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a ball turning tool for a lathe. Thanks to Jim Rozen . Jim provided the following description: ============================================================= Here are some shots of an "over the top" ball turning tool that I made in my spare time. It clamps into my oddball toolpost, but could be made to be stand-alone. I bought an import boring head from MSC and put it onto a shaft that pivots in the toolblock. An old pulley with a handle and the red ball on the end is the part you push on to get it to cut. I set the height with the toolpost clamp, and the radius is set with the boring head adjustment. The carriage sets where on the stock the ball is centered. Files are: Jim1.jpg is a lefthand view of the setup. One can see the boring head with a tool in place, and the pulley for the hub on the back end. Jim2.jpg is a tailstock-eye view of the same setup. I am about to take a cut on the stock in the spindle. Jim3.jpg Jim4.jpg are both views of a quick-n-dirty example of turning a ball on the end. I was in a big hurry because my digital camera was about to leave.... Jim5.jpg is an overall view of the lathe - a South Bend 10L sitting in my shop. Great machine. Jim6.jpg is included just for fun, it is a Seneca Falls STAR brand lathe which used to be foot pedal driven. I guess I am keeping it only as a curiosity, but it is hardly worn at all. For STAR fans only. Well as they say, that's all folks. Hope you all enjoyed. Jim
