Ted provided the following description: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A Boring Bar Adapter for Square Toolposts by E.M. (Ted) Edwards BOREHOLD.TXT This file BOREHOLD.GIF Drawing This adapter allows one to use 1/2" diameter boring bars in a square four position toolpost. Although I have boring bars with flats top and bottom so they could be clamped in the toolpost, I found that I could not shim the boring bar high enough to bring the cutter to centerline - the top of the bar hit the top of the mounting slot. This adapter holds a 1/2" diameter boring bar such that the center of the boring bar is 1/2" above the bottom mounting surface. This results in shims of similar thickness to those I use on my 1/2" square toolholders. The unit is made in two pieces for three reasons: A one piece adapter would require milling off a lot of stock; I had stock of convenient size for the technique I used; I felt like playing with locating pins. With 20/20 hindsight, it would have been better to use a 5/8" wide piece for the clamping block (instead of 1/2").
