FILENAMES: Fishmth.gif Fishmth.mcr DESCRIPTION: These are files about cutting tubing for joining. Posted by Ted Edwards . Ted provided the following description: ================================================================= I have implemented a formula in APL2 for the curve that occurs when one pipe or tube meets another - a so called "fish mouth" and used a program I wrote that outputs numerical data in a form my CAD program (Generic CADD) can understand. I printed the curve at 1:1, cut out the relevant parts of the drawing, wrapped this around the pipe and fixed it in place with a hose clamp. I then followed the curve freehand with the plasma cutter with minimal damage to the paper. The accompanying file, FISHMTH.GIF, shows what the output looks like although to be used it has to be printed 1:1. This example was used to join 1.5" Sch 40 pipe to 2" Sch 40 pipe as part of a lifting frame I built. The horizontal lines are used to accurately align the ends of the template around the pipe to be cut. If you don't have a plasma cutter, you can center punch where the vertical lines cross the curve, remove the template and cut by whatever means you have. FISHMTH.MCR is the file my program produced for input into Generic CADD. If such a program is of interest to you, see also the post under subject "Fish mouth template project" in news:rec.crafts.metalwork or news:sci.engr.joining.welding. Ted Edwards Ted_E@bc.sympatico.ca
