FILENAMES: TUBERIV.JPG DESCRIPTION: Picture of tools for putting rivets in tubing. Thanks to Ted Edwards . Ted provided the following description: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tube Rivets E.M. (Ted) Edwards 990823 The file TUBERIV.JPG shows a plated steel rivet with a hollow end, a setting tool and a bucking tool. These rivets are used to make joints involving tubing. A plain rivet would just bend inside the tube when you tried to set it. The hollow end of these rivets curls over without bending the solid part when driven with an appropriate set. Only the end of the rivet is hollow. The rivet shown in the photo is 0.244" in diameter with a 0.182 diameter hole 0.218" deep in the end away from the head. This leaves a 0.031" wall to be rolled over in the setting process. I made the bucking tool from 1/2" drill rod, hardened and tempered. The curved socket was cut with a suitable diameter die grinder ball tool. The small end was machined to fit the hole in one of my bucking bars. The setting tool was modified from an extra rivet set that fits my air hammer. Note how the shape of the tip will roll the end of the rivet.
