Jason provided the following description: ======================================================================== These pics show my Asian 3in1 Multi-Porpose Machine spindle modification to eliminate vertical play and rotational slop between the pinion and rack teeth in the mill head. This involved machining two offset bushings in which to mount the downfeed gearbox and return spring housings. The housings were turned down .080" to accomodate the offset bushings, which have a maximum offset of .060". A locator slot was milled into the quill, and a locator bolt was made by turning the end of a 12x1.75 mm bolt to .200" and hardening/tempering. A brass dognose bushing was turned to .250" OD and reamed for a light press fit onto the locator bolt. This dognose bushing engages the slot in the quill, eliminating rotational play of the quill in the mill head.
