FILENAMES: r_xyfront.jpg r_xyback.jpg DESCRIPTION: Pictures of a CNC milling attachment for a lathe as built by reckless . Reckless provided the following description: ======================================================================== r_xyfront.jpg and r_xyback are front and rear views of the milling attachment I have cobbled together. I have attached stepper motors with 1:4 timing pulleys to the lead screws. The lead screws are fitted with needle thrust bearings to reduce friction. The lathe's compound slide is removed and 4 holes have been drilled and tapped on the saddle. The lathe has 4 convienently located bosses for doing this. A couple of bars of 1" aluminum are bolted to the saddle to provide clearance for the 6" x 8" angle. All of this weighs well over 100 pounds. Endmills are held in collets in the lathe spindle. The spindle has Timken roller bearings and is driven by a variable speed dc motor.
