FILENAMES: DRO-tool.jpg DRO-servomotor.jpg DESCRIPTION: Photos about removing an optical encoder wheel from a servo motor. Posted by Terry May . Terry provided the following description: ========================================================================= These are pictures of the two wedged shaped tools that I made to remove the encoder disc from the shaft of the small 24vdc servo motors purchased from Goldmine Electronics (www.goldmine-elec.com). The encoder wheels are being used for DROs as discussed on the CAD_CAM_EDM-DRO list. The tool is two slotted wedges made from 3/4 by 3/8 by 4 inch aluminum bar stock simply because it was handy. The slot is 5/16, intended to clear the 5mm motor shaft. Steel would be more durable but I only intended to use the tool for three motors. In use, after removing the retaining ring above the encoder disc, I set the wedges by hand and then used a small arbor press (Taiwan special 1 ton) to compress the wedges and pop off the disc. It worked very well and did not damage the discs. Dro_tool.jpg shows the two wedges and Dro_servomotor.jpg show the wedges inserted under the encoder disc. Terry May
