Here are some pictures of my Hit and Miss engine I built.
It has an 1 1/2" bore and stroke.

I melted an old bell housing for the Al. and made the flywheels
out of steel plate. It has a steel rod and crank, with bronze bearings. 

The only thing I didn't make was the timing gears.

I built the furnace from 1/3 of a 55 gal. drum.
It's lined with firebrick and has a wall mounted handdryer blower.
I very the speed with a powerstat.
I use propane fuel from a 20 gal. tank with an Ace. regulator.
It will melt brass with about 7 lbs. pressure.
