Ted provided the following description: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hose Clamp Maker E.M. (Ted) Edwards Some years ago, I saw (and purchased) a tool for making hose clamps in situ. This gadget was being demonstrated and sold by the inventer's daughter. They were from Alaska and, unfortunately, I have long since lost the instruction sheet with their name and address. The clamps are made from wire. I usually use stainless steel safety wire but any sufficiently strong wire could be used. A length of wire is cut off, doubled and threaded around the hose and fitting two or three times. HOSECLP1.JPG shows the wire formed around the hose with the tool in place ready to tighten. This example used 16" of wire. Turn the wing nut until the wire is tightened as much as you wish. Don't cut through the hose. When you have tightened the wire, flip the tool over as shown in HOSECLP2.JPG. Now cut the wire free of the tool, trim the ends and push them down slightly into the hose. This last eliminates cut fingers when you handle the hose. A finished joint is shown in HOSECLP3.JPG.
