FILENAMES: SB36.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of an old Southbend lathe equipped with riser blocks to make 36" swing. Posted by Ted Williams . Ted provided the following description: ================================================================= ----------------------- 36"x8' South Bend Lathe circa 1929 It's all there, one messedup gear and one chunk out of one base. Bed wear ok and headstock tight. Even came with a factoy riser for a steady rest. It is one of the automotive lathes. If somebody will send me the dropbox e-mail, I post a photo! Ted ----------------------- > Judging by what I saw, I think that it was done with riser >blocks at each end, and under the compound, starting from a much smaller >lathe design (perhaps 10" or so?) But the resolution (and color >information) was poor enough so I could not really benefit from that. The risers are 10", so that makes the lathe of oragin a 16". This is confirmed by the gearbox plate that says "South Bend 16 inch". Ted
