FILENAMES: chair1.JPG chair2.JPG DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a tracked vehicle adapter for a wheelchair. Posted by Roger Hull . Roger provided the following description: ================================================================= The idea was to make a tracked chassis my electric wheelchair would drop into with a minimum of modifications. The track is necessary to travel soft and rough ground. The ability to mount city curbs was another goal. I now have about a year and a half into this project. I believed I could buy rubber tracks off-the-shelf, but that proved wrong. The track is constructed of 3/16” x 1.5” bar stock cut into six inch lengths. Two bushings, 5/8” x 1/4” are welded to each shoe on 1” centers. The drive and idler sprockets are #80 roller chain sprockets. Drive from the two electric motors is #40 roller chain with a 13 tooth sprocket on the motors and a 35 tooth on the rear. Bearings are go-kart. This thing is seriously underpowered. But my main problem is that it will throw the track when making turns on asphalt. If the track can’t slide sideways, the bogy wheels will jump over the wheel guides and then the track comes off the drive sprocket. Very embarrasing. Any pointers would be appreciated.
