FILENAMES: crankshaft.jpg crankshaft2.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a huge crankshaft. Posted by Tom Martin . Tom provided the following description: ================================================================= During the 1997 year SKODA STEEL manufactured the crankshaft for the first WARTSILA 12V64 superlarge engine. At present this is the largest existing monoblock crankshaft all over the world. For the manufacturing of the crankshaft a special SAF (Skoda Advanced Forging) method was applied. The crankshaft itself has a length of more than 8.5 m and weight exceeding 31 ton. The engine (power more than 23 MW) 32,000 hp was put into operation in the beginning of 1998 (power station in Vaasa, Finland). Just for interests sake I've posted another crank that's even bigger: crankshaft2.jpg
