FILENAMES: jaws.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a drawing of a set of milling machine vise jaws. Posted by Mike Graham . Mike provided the following description: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The file jaws.jpg shows a profile view of a set of milling-machine vise jaws designed by a gentleman that I do work for. The beauty of these jaws is that you rarely need to use parallels because most work can be held either in the notch at the top of the jaws, or if it is large, by the flange edges at the outside of the jaws. The relief cuts in the flats of the jaws were added because there was too much flat surface, and there was a problem with pieces floating or sticking. The original jaws were machined each from a solid block. Welding up the general shape would be far cheaper. Make them heavy so you can take a few thou off of them every year or so to keep them honest. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Mike Graham | Metalworker by trade mikegraham at sprint dot ca | Weld to live, like to weld.
