FILENAMES: shop_tip1.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a shop storage idea. Posted by Rick Dulas . Rick provided the following description: ================================================================= Shop Tip #1: Storing small amounts of various chemicals How to use/store/have all those different kinds of solvents or liquids that you need? My solution is the ever handy Gatorade bottle with the squirt top. I typically keep Acetone, MEK, Laquer Thinner, Alcohol, Naptha, & water handy for whatever comes up. The squirt top when sealed keeps the contents from evaporating and when opened allows me to dispense a small quantity right where I want it. The bottles in the photo bottle_rack.jpg have had all the above mentioned solvents in them for a year without noticable effect. You'll also notice the color coded labels, blue for water, yellow for laquer thinner etc. This serves as a visual reminder of what I'm about to dispense and keeps me from trying to wet sand some small part with acetone. (see Shop Tip #2) The rack is attached to the side of my bench so these chemicals are easy to use. This rack is built out of 1/4" thick wainscoating material I had left over from a re-modeling project. The dowels which separate and support the bottles are shish-ka-bob skewers from a local wholesale outlet. The shear strength of the skewers is much greater than the load full bottles impose on the structure.
