FILENAMES: just this text file DESCRIPTION: This is a discussion of a shop storage idea. Posted by Rick Dulas . Rick provided the following description: ================================================================= Shop Tip #2: Color Coding Tape Electronics uses a 10 color code for all kinds of things and apparently electricians use the same code. At any wholesale electrical house and probably Grainger et al, you can find 3M brand "33+" vinyl electrical tape in these same colors. Why is this a shop tip? I use these tapes to color code all kinds of things. Bottles with clear liquids in them. Is it water or Laquer thinner? Project components. Does this widget go with this pile of parts or that? Containers holding parts in oil. What's in here? Wires. Is this hot or ground? And so on. The uses are limited only by your imagination. The up front cost is about $2-$3 per roll, but I'm still working off the rolls I bought 10 years ago. What is the color code? I thought you'd never ask. I learned the following mnemonic years ago in a less politically-correct age. I'm sure that there are many others which will fit. BAD Black 0 BOYS Brown 1 RAVISH Red 2 OUR Orange 3 YOUNG Yellow 4 GIRLS Green 5 BUT Blue 6 VIOLET Violet 7 GIVES Gray 8 WILLINGLY White 9
