Posted by Dan Mauch . Dan provided the following description: ================================================================= Here are some pictures of my Tool post grinder that I made using the design concepts of Chuck McGhee of C&G Research see http://candgresearch.domainvalet.com Chuck gave me the basic parameters for the tool post grinder but I modified it extensively. Notice the thick Aluminum bearing housings. I got the 7075 aluminum billet at Boeing surplus. The Motor is a 10,000 RPM 1/2 HP motor with a 3/1 timing belt drive. Running RPM is well below the maximum speed of the 8" wheel. I still have a few odds and ends like wiring the motor to the IEC plug and the lighted power switch. I tested it with a temporary power cord. Man does it take off the metal. Chuck's uses a 1 HP 10,000 RPM motor he reports that he can really plow the metal off. No more dinky .001" roughing cuts per pass. Chuck and I are using stepper motor controllers that I built. They can either be computer controlled or in the manual mode run the carriage as slow or as fast as we want. See my web page at www.seanet.com/~dmauch for infomation on CNC and various other neat projects. Dan
