The following description was provided: ================================================================= A friend of mine wanted to get into machining and we were able to find him a little 9x20 Grizzly. Problem: No reverse for the lead screw (i.e., no left hand threads.) We saw an article in an older Projects in Metal magazine (sorry, don't know the year) on making the reverse lever. We modified it a bit. At first we thought we'd be smart and not use the gear setup suggested. Ran into clearance problems . . . the author was right on target. We did not have a mill or shaper, just the lathe and a drill press. Therefore our conversion was a little crude, but not too bad. The following are the pics we took of the finished job. We copied the multiplier tumbler knob for our "forward - neutral – reverse" lever. I'm sorry we didn't take any pics with the drive pulley off. However, it is a simple conversion. Maybe some guys in the 9x20 group have the actual plans and can post them. In the same article was a great idea in using an aux. variable speed motor geared down to drive the lead screw for feeds (with the F-N-R lever in neutral). It was a great idea. That's next on my friend's lathe.
