FILENAMES: Coal_forge.jpg DESCRIPTION: This a diagram of a design for a coal fired forge. Posted by Ernie Leimkuhler . Ernie provided the following description: ================================================================= This is a simple idea for a Coal forge. I built several of these years ago and they last forever. You can adjust the design any way you want to scale the firepot and table to any size you need. The firepot is welded up from steel plate. The air blast is delivered through steel pipe. You can either bolt or weld the pipe flange to the bottom of the firepot. If bolting use stainless steel bolts with high temp anti-sieze on the threads. The tuyere should just sit in the bottom of the firepot. I suggest welding the heavy steel block to a thinner plate of 1/4" steel that matches the bottom of the firepot. This way if the tuyere needs to be worked on you can just lift it out. It's weight alone will keep it in the bottom of the firepot. The holes in the tuyere should be scaled to match the size of your coal chunks. I prefer almond to peach-pit sized coal. The Clinker should end up as a donut around the bottom of the firepot. Any questions can be sent to me. Ernie Leimkuhler Renton, WA ernie@stagesmith.com
