FILENAMES: JD1.jpg JD2.jpg JD3.jpg JD4.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a model of a John Deere engine. Posted by Chuck Fellows . Chuck provided the following description: ================================================================= Model John Deere Engine The pictures JD1 thru JD4 show a model John Deere Engine I just completed. It's somewhat stylized and it runs on compressed air, but it sounds pretty much like a John Deere twin cylinder engine from the forties. The construction is mostly steel with a little brass here and there as shown. It has 3/4" bore and 7/8" stroke, overhead intake valves of the poppet style and a separate camshaft that runs off the crankshaft through gearing. Both the crankshaft and camshaft run in ball bearings. Unlike its larger counterpart which fires twice in two revolutions, this engine "fires" twice every revolution. The crankshaft journals for the connecting rods are 90 degrees apart so the engine has the synchopated sound of the original. The exhaust is through holes in the cylinder wall at the bottom of the stroke which gives it a nice putt-putt sound. Sorry, no drawings for it yet. Chuck Fellows
