FILENAMES: WELDCUT1.JPG WELDCUT2.JPG DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a cart for welder and plasma cutter. Posted by Ted Edwards . Ted provided the following description: ================================================================= A Cart for my Welder and Plasma Cutter E.M. (Ted) Edwards 010227 See also WELDCUT1.JPG and WELDCUT2.JPG Several years ago, I made myself a welding cart from leftover re-bar, bed frame from the local dump, some plywood scraps, a bit of chain and four castors from a scrapped shopping cart. Power comes to the cart via a ~10foot #10/3 cab tire cord with a standard 240V welder plug on one end. The other end goes into an electrical box mounted on the cart with two 240V welder recepticles. I shortened the cord on the welder to get the above power cord and installed a welder plug on the shortened cord. Both welder and plasma cutter plug into the receptacles on the box. I have 240V 60A outlets at each end of my shop and one in the garage. I also made up 30 foot and 100 foot 240V extension cords from #10/3 cab tire for when I won't be near any of my installed welder outlets. I don't like to use long cables for the output side since they operate at much higher currents and lower voltage. If you look carefully, you will see ground wires in photo WELDCUT1 going from the cart to the ground connections on both the welder and cutter. I added a short lead from the welder ground plug to the cart and another from the plasma cutter to the cart. There are quick disconnects on each of these leads for any occasion when I wish to use one of the machines off the cart. This arrangement has three advantages: The cart is grounded (safety); Only one work ground lead serves both machines; The single ground lead is much longer than that which came with the plasma cutter. I actually used part of the original plasma cutter ground lead for the wire. The rest of it is coiled up on a shelf with a mating connector should I ever wish to use the cutter off the cart. (Hasn't happened yet.) As you can see in the photos, the gas bottle is on the cart - I use 75/25 Argon/Helium for all my TIG work. I mounted a coalescing air filter on the back of the plasma cutter in case I use it on someone else's air supply. In my shop, I have a well filtered air supply for it but the extra filter certainly doesn't hurt. The two surplus first aid kits on the shelf beside the gas bottle contain the accessories for both machines. The other container has pieces of copper and stainless for backing and jigging. You can see my auto-darkening helmet hanging on the gas bottle valve. All in all, I'm very happy with the setup.
