FILENAMES: alba_table.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a shaper table in need of repair. Posted by Peter Verbree . The following description was provided: ================================================================= Merry Christmas from the Great White North!! In my quest to re-habilitate my very abused Alba 10" shaper ( nearly done) I am pondering what to do about the table, which has a large chunk broken out where it attaches to the cross slide. (See picture in the dropbox labeled Alba table.jpg The right side is actually the top) As I see it I have 5 choices: 1) do nothing except drill and tap new gib adjustment screw. 2) Machine the top off and attach a repair part with, say 6, 5/16" countersink cap screws 3) Machine off just the broken corner and attach repair like in #2 4) Make pattern and have new part cast 5) Buy replacement. #1 Is the easiest and will probably do just fine for the kind of work I do, it just looks bad #2 Lots of work, alignment and strength concerns #3 Less work, I'm leaning toward this #4 lots and lots of work expensive but end result should be best. #5 Very expensive, parts are made from something close to un-obtainium ( the difference in the dollar and shipping make for unreasonable cost, they must come from the UK) I would appreciate some input from the group as to what would be the most appropriate fix to this. Please keep in mind that I only paid $100.00 cdn and would like to keep the total bill less than $500. When I'm done I will post some pictures of the results Merry Christmas Pete In Sudbury ON
