FILENAMES: id_grinder 1.jpg id_grinder 2.jpg id_grinder 3.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a homemade ID grinder setup. Posted by Terry Keeley . Terry provided the following description: ================================================================= The following three pictures show an id grinder I built with a lot of help from a tool maker friend and the good folks at rcm. Pic 1 shows the Emco Compact 5 which was fitted with Class 7 Barden sindle bearings and mounted to a 2" ground steel base. The NSK Falcon G-1 reciprocating grinder is mounted to a cast iron cross-slide that can be adjusted to vary the angle of the grinding unit. The precision Universal lead screw was found on rcm, and can move the unit fractions of a tenth. Coolant feed and drains are also seen. Pic 2 shows the blank end arbors that were used to hold the model cylinder sleeves for grinding. Seals for the spindle bearings and the coolant tray are also shown. Pic 3 gives better detail of the cross-slide, coolant stem and the spindle. I built this unit mainly to grind the chrome on the sleeves of my model race boat engines but already have other jobs planned. I've been able to obtain roundness to 25 millionths (1/4 of one tenth), and straightness to twice that, as read on my Mitutoyo bore guage:) Thanks again to all the folks at rcm!
