These are pictures of a home-made pop-off sand casting flask.

I just tried out my home-made pop-off flask and it works great! 
The internal size is 5-1/4 x 5-1/4 x about 5-1/2 high. 
I used simple hinges and draw latches to close the 3/4" (1x) pine sections.
The guide pins are clamped in wood blocks and the bushings are just pieces 
of angle iron screwed on.

The benifit of a pop-off flask is that you don't tie up your cope & drag 
with the mold. Many molds can be prepared for a pour from just one flask.
