FILENAMES: tphconv1.JPG tphconv2.JPG DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a home built three phase rotary converter. Posted by Kenneth W. Sterling . Kenneth provided the following description: ================================================================= These are two pictures of the Rotary Converter I built for my mill. The file tphconv1.jpg is a picture of the electronics and the idler motor sitting in the "test" mode just roughly and temporarily wired together. The motor is a 5 HP General Electric. The second file, tphconv2.jpg is a closeup of the electronics which were assembled in an old 12" x 20" Fuse Panel Box. I simply removed the fuse "board" from the panel box, and separated the neutral busbar into 3 sections. (Line one, Line two, and Neutral) The three silver colored caps are run caps, the two black caps at the bottom of the panel are start caps and the upper center relay is the relay which kicks in the start caps with the potential relay below it causing the relay to drop out, once the motor spins up to speed. Notice my dedicated attention to color coding on the wiring . The 12 x 20 cabinet gave me lots of room for the wiring without being crowded, and it has been mounted to the block wall in my shop, behind and just below the overarm on the mill. There will be a couple of other pictures of the mill with the complete wiring of the self-starting converter push button station (start/stop). Ken.
