FILENAMES: wire.jpg DESCRIPTION: This a scanned image of a wiring diagram of a Southbend 10" lathe. Posted by Jim Rozen . Jim provided the following description: ================================================================= Here's an example of connecting a three pole, double throw drum switch to reverse a single phase, 240 volt motor. The trick depends on the fact that some motors put two run windings in series for 240 volt operation, and tie one end of the start winding to the connection between the two. In this case I wanted to keep the thermal cutout switch wired up, so that required an additional wire between motor and drum switch. I like to use liquid-tight conduit between motor and switch because it is more rugged than rubber-covered "S" cord. Plus it's hard to find multi-conductor S cord in hardware stores.
