FILENAMES: 3phconverter.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a 3 phase rotary converter. Posted by James Glass . The following description was provided: ================================================================= Three phase rotary; After using a static converter to run my surface grinder, a power loss quite obvious. I heard a rotary converter had less power loss. The capacitors were purchased from WW Granger. The push buttons and coil were components scrounged up. The start button closes the coil and energizes the start capacitor. Releasing the start button de-energizes the start cap. The coil keeps the rest of the circuit running. A 1 or 2 HP three phase motor serves as an idler. These are easy, inexpensive and fun projects and a way to have three phase power at home. I went out of my way to by a single phase mill and lathe not realizing how easy it is to have 3 phase. Jim Glass Genoa, IL
