Posted by Mike Henry . The following description was provided: ================================================================= These are pictures of the damaged motor pulley sheaves on a Clausing 5914 variable speed lathe. I recently bought this lathe (S/N 511890, March 1977) and just discovered the damage. The sliding pulley (P/N 5900-124) still seems to be in decent shape, but the stationary pulley (P/N 560-136) has a chunk of the shaft sheared off near the (possibly) original keyway. There is another keyway located 90 degrees from the first that is badly rounded off at the keyway walls. Clausing5914StationaryPulley2.jpg - View of the stationary pulley showing sheared off section Clausing5914StationaryPulley2.jpg - view of the stationary pulley showing the second keyway Clausing5914SlidingPulley1.jpeg - View if the sliding pulley I'm wondering if it would be practical to repair the stationary pulley by having a good welder add material to the pulley shaft and then turn down the shaft and broach a new keyway.
