FILENAMES: DogDriver2.jpg DogDriver1.jpg DogDriver-CuttingGear.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a gear cutting using a dividing head. Posted by Mike Fendley . The following description was provided: ================================================================= Pictures are of a HS student cutting a new back gear for a Rockwell 10" lathe salvaged out of the junk yard. The small gear on the back gear had almost no teeth. The student turned down the cast iron gear area, machined a steel ring, then pressed on the steel ring (with loctite) and proceeded to cut the 16DP, 31T gear. From the picture you can see the steel ring differentiated from the cast iron. DogDriver1&2 are pics of a dog driver attached to an Enco type dividing head that will allow various types of lathe dogs to be used on a mandrel and the dividing head. This was also student made. Although it was pressed on the #7 B&S center (has a 5/8 diameter end), a flat was also ground on the center for the set screw to engage for added security. The student had the biggest grin on his face you've ever seen as he machined this gear. He has 2 more "smiles" to go as he also has to "retooth" the 90T bull gear, and one other gear as well. Although I teach this machine shop class as a non-paid volunteer, I wouldn't miss is for the world to see the smiles and pride in these kids eyes. I'll post some other projects they are doing towards the end of May when they are close to being done. Mike Fendley, LeClaire, Iowa MikeJanF@juno.com
