FILENAMES: DumpedLathe1.jpg DumpedLathe2.jpg DESCRIPTION: Pictures of a small lathe recovered from the dump. Posted by Marc . The following description was provided: ================================================================ These are front and back pics of a lathe I picked up from the dump. No pulleys, but there's a shaft where it looks like pulleys might have been. There are two gears that are not tied to anything. And there are no markings on it at all.. I'm looking for info on how to get this working the right way. I have no experience with lathes at al, so I'm also looking for a good beginner book. Because of this, I'll guarantee that I don't know the correct terminology. Things that move very well: The gears, and chuck, spin very nicely. The tail slides very well on the bed. The tool carriage moves well with the crank. And the tool holder pivots nicely. Things that don't move well, or are broken: The chuck is rusted tight, and I don't know how to remove it to try other de- rusting methods on it. The pointy tail thing is siezed tight in it's holder.. The tightening screw works fine, though. And the cast iron piece that holds the screw that adjusts this tailpiece broke off. I do have that piece, so it's a matter of brazing or welding it back on. And, finally, the tool holder slides, but very tightly, perpendicular to the bed. So, any info on this lathe, how to restore it, and beginner books in general will be greatly appreciated. -Marc
