Posted by Wayne Cook . The following description was provided: ================================================================= These are some pics of the frame extension I'm doing to a semi tractor. When through this will become a big wrecker. I'll be adding pics as I go along. As you can see I'm adding about 4 1/2 ft to the frame. In pics 1-5 I've just got through adding the extensions (though I've still got to grind the welds on the passenger side rail). I'll be adding a insert in the inside of the frame running from the back to about the rear spring hanger of the front axle. The extensions are just A36 I've had broke to match the existing frame. The original frame is 5/16" thick which I matched on the extensions though the frame is definitely a higher carbon content than the extensions. The insert is also bent from 5/16" A36 and it's broke to just slip inside the frame. I had to add 5' to the end of the insert to get it long enough since I couldn't get more than 20' broke at one time. I'll be putting the welded end of the insert in the front under the cab. I'll also be adding a piece of 1/2" x 9" HR strap inside the insert in the rear which will go from the back to just in front of the front driver spring mounts. It's to reinforce that section for the underlift that will be placed in the rear of the truck.
