FILENAMES: ShaperLogan8FabbedDoor.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a shop made machine door. Posted by Art Volz . The following description was provided: ================================================================ ShaperLogan8FabbedDoor.jpg is a PIC of a side access door that I fabricated for Joe. W's late model Logan-8 shaper. It is fabricated from a Lodge U.S.A. cast-iron camping skillet with the handle removed and the rim turned to proper O.D. A piece of 1-1/4-inch square steel tubing was band sawed to fit the skillet's curvature and affixed with double lock-nutted inside the tube first, and then inside the skillet bottom Torx flat head ¼-inch bolts. The hardest part was Bondo-izing the bottom and creating a ¼-inch round fillet via a specially shaped sanding block. The hinge pin was formed from an off-the-shelf bolt that had a 6/32 inch nylon insert, through a hole drilled through it's threads, installed to preclude it working free during operation; a long captive coupling type nut was machined to size and placed inside the right tube end, with aligned holes on top of and on the bottom, which secured the hinge pin. As pictured, the door is seen mounted and wearing 10 coats of sanded between coatings Rust-oleum's top grade light gray automotive primer. Now all that Joe needs to do is to paint it high gloss purple. ? Art Volz, Houston, volzmechatronic@yahoo.com
