FILENAMES: ShaperTraverseHead5Inch.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a small hand powered metal shaper. Posted by Art Volz . The following description was provided: ================================================================= Photograph is of a small, English, benchtop, manually-operated metal shaper. PIC does not show the operating lever which is missing. It weighs approximately 30 to 40 lbs. The stroke is 5-inches and has a max head traverse of 4-1/2 inches. The maximum distance of the tool head above the table is approximately 5-inches. The tool has a vertical movement only and edoes not swivel. Supposedly, this shaper was brought back from England during the 1960's or 1970's. Ian Bradley in his book "The Shaping Machine" has a PIC of this shaper in Chapter 2 (Hand Power Machines) as Fig. 2 (Amateur made hand-powered machine). The castings do not appear to be one-offs, but do appear to have been provided as part of a kit. Does anyone have any information concerning this shaper? Was it ever advertised in "Model Engineer" as a kit and, if so, by whom and in which issue(s) of this magazine? Thanx for your assistance. Please reply to: Art Volz – volzmechatronic@yahoo.com.
