In a discussion on bandsaw tires, I tried to explain that some 
band sawmills use belts on pulleys as the tires. I couldn't 
make it understood with words, so I uploaded a drawing 
to help the idea along.

The band saw blade rides atop the belts, acting as a tire. The 
saw can also be driven from one of the small pulleys. The belts 
are cheap and easily replaced.
