spindle.

Make an l-00 adapter to fit your chuck. I bought 
a 8 " cushman plain back then turned a pice of 8620 to fit the taper. 
To cut the keyway, I used the apron cranked like a broach. If you figure 
where the keyway will be radially, you can drill a hole through the piece 
to remove most of the material before you start to turn the part. Broach 
out the corners of the keyway with a toolsteel bit set on center. 
Thread the collar and try the piece on the spindle. After cutting the taper, 
fit it to the taper (inside scraping with dykem blue). 
When you're happy with the fit, turn the face and OD to run true.
