The following description was provided: ================================================================= This is my CNC project. For now this will be a bench top mill/drill. However, unbolting the mill head and mounting my wire EDM feed to the table, the x/y axis will then make my home built wire EDM "CNC". Not sure how I will integrate the steppers with the EDM voltage, but there is bound to be a way. All 3 machine axis use linear bearings and Tompson shafting for slides. In addition to the linear bearing and shaft I installed rails of hardened steel or brass sliding on soft steel strips. This will reduce deflection in the shafts. The shafts will do the guiding and the rails supporting the table. The feed screws are 1/2-20 threaded rod even though ball screws would be better. Travel will be 16" X 12" x 6". I'm thinking of going with a set of Microkinetics for a complete set of steppers, circuit boards, and cables. This is my first experience with CNC. I want to work with compatible components and have product support. Hopefully the hand cranks can remain at one end to the table and saddle while the steppers are at the opposite end.
