The following description was provided: ================================================================= Lathe/Shaper tool grinding fixture Gunner 9/15-02 I needed an adjustable tool holding fixture to sharpen/shape lathe and shaper bits, so decided to make one. I had a bit of hotrolled steel scrap laying about, so using a lathe and shaper, drill press and taps, this is the fixture I made. Its adjustable in 3 axis. The first few pictures are shown with the swing arm in its "close in" position, which is used with a surface grinder. By simply reversing the swing arm, it may be used with a belt sander or bench grinder. By placing the tool in the inboard position, its possible to grind rather tight radius by swiveling the base (see the hex bolt). Moving the bit & swing arm around, many different radius may be ground. Angle setting is easy with a protractor. I plan on engraving the most common angles on the blocks themselves, using the various corners as pointers. Cost was nothing, and it took about 4 hours fiddling around. If you have some, use fine threaded bolts as its much easier to juggle angles while holding a protractor and allen wrench. A bit of thin paper between the blocks makes a friction hold while adjusting.
