FILENAMES: gate.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a iron and wood gate built by the poster. Posted by Paul K. Dickman . The following description was provided: ================================================================= This is a gate I built for my breezeway. The frame is 1 1/2"x 1/8" angle. The wood is some rough sawn oak 1x6 pallet boards I got with a shipment of sheet copper several years ago. It bt backed with 2 layers of 30lb tarpaper (to deaden street noise) and a sheet of 5/8" plywood siding to stiffen it and prevent racking. All of this is carriage bolted to the frame. The hinge bars and lockplates are forged from 1'" hr sheet, the corner brackets from 3/16"x 1 1/2" hr. The pickets are forged from 1/2" sq hr and sandwiched between two stock Indital scrolls. The end scrolls are made from the same pattern Indital scrolls, with the ends cut down and reforged. The key lock is an Adams-Rite swinging bolt lock of the type used on aluminum doors. I mounted it upside down so, that when locked, it locks both the center post and the other door. The latch is an old mortise latch I had laying around. The gate size is approximately 7' x 7' Paul K.
