FILENAMES: whatsis1.jpg DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of a dial indicating snap gage. Posted by Tom Jenks . The following description was provided: ================================================================ The following picture in whatsis1.jpg is a gauge/indicator I found. I can't figure out exactly what it is for. The piston on the left side of the dial seems stuck. It can be pushed up and the needle moves but doesn't return to where it was. What is the purpose of the slider that comes up from 45 deg. There is a locking screw on it. The dial is graduated from -5 to 65. It is marked "The F. W. Horstman Co. Irvington, N. J. U. S. A." and "Pat. Apld For." The movement is very simple. The piston serves as a rack which drives a short pinion segment. The other end of the pivoted plate from the rack is a gear segment that meshes with a gear on the needle shaft. Has anyone seen one of these? TJ
