FILENAMES: Bore_6inches.JPG Bore_6inches_closeup.JPG DESCRIPTION: These two pictures show how to reduced chatter while boring out a deep piston sleeve. A single bore, from one end, was required. Posted by Martin Eastburn . The following description was provided: ========================================================================= The boring bar is 1/2 solid carbide - the cutter is indexable carbide. The bar is held out almost 6" from the end of my Aloris tool holder on the right. Under light cuts, a harmonic tone could be heard - indicating a possible chatter cut deep inside. Touching the bar solved the tone issue. What to do - I'm in Friction semi-automatic mode and in 0.0009 inches / rev of the spindle. A long time for 6 " ! I grabbed the T-bar - was cutting T-nuts one day and had a bar left. I grabbed the little tube of 'instant' cyro glue. The thick kind. Also some spritz that makes it lock up faster. The bar did a clean bore with this nominal backing. Martin oldtree@pacbell.net
