FILENAMES: FullDomer.jpg FullDomerToolAndBracelets.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of small jeweler's power hammer. Posted by Dar Shelton . The following description was provided: ================================================================= Basically, this is a custom power hammer affair. The drive train turns the uppermost horizontal bar , and eccentric cams on it contact the nylon tops of the two vertical threaded rods. The threaded rods connect to the lower horizontal bar, which is the tool-holding bar. This bar holds the rounded male punch , cycling it up and down about 4x per second. The punch has a matching female die made of nylon that sits immediately below it on the blue I -beam base, and as the tool reciprocates, the bracelet strip is fed through roughly 1/16" to 1/8" per strike. This gives the bracelet strip convex curvature (looking from the outside) along it's length and the desired domed cross section. Considerable care is taken fine tuning the tool sets so that the fronts of the strips have no ridges , are therefore easy to finish, and when polished , have a nice, uniformly rounded reflective surface. Motor is a 1/4 hp dc gearmotor . Brass threaded rods screw through cams to aid in cooling. Tool bar travel is adjusted to about 3/16" , and this lessens the contact time of cam/nylon pads, and makes it difficult for fingertips to fit between tool parts, and facilitates the strip curling around the tool bar. Male punches are cast bronze , made (rubber molds, lost wax cast) from hand ground steel masters off of a manually operated domer built previously, and have mounting tabs of steel brazed on.
