FILENAMES: P&W1.JPG P&W2.JPG P&W3.JPG DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of a Pratt & Whitney lathe. Posted by Richard Weich . The following description was provided: ================================================================= The pictures P&W1 and P&W2 are of the Pratt & Whitney lathe I got at auction. I just wanted to share the pictures with every one. It's a 16 X 30" and weighs about 4500 pounds at a rough guess. The pictures are of the lathe sitting on the trailer the next morning. I had tied the tarp down really well I though, but a storm came in and blew it of. Good thing everything had a good coating of oil. The lathe has a top speed of 1000 RPMs and I think it may even turn 18" in stead of the rated 16". It looks like it had a taper attachment on it at one time. Also it appers to have had the ways redone and not seen much use since then. Richard Weich ------------------------------- Picture number 3 is how we lifted it off a trailer. Ray came over to help me unload it. He's on the left and I am on the right. The A frame I am using I built with a 5" I beam 12' long. The uprights are 3 1/2" square tube with 3" square tube that telescopes out in 1' increments. I put the lathe with Ray's help and 2 teenage boys in a 40' cargo container. It was a lot of work, since we had to pick the lathe up and move it as far as the rail would let us. THe set it down and move the A frame hoist over, then lift it again. It took us 5 moves to get it in the container. On the last move we lower one end of the A frame and set it inside the container. That is the beauty of the A frame hoist is the independently adjustable legs. I can't wait to get power in there and fire it up. I already have a project in mind. Besides a few parts for the old caterpillar model 20. Richard Weich 1/26/2003
