I bought a Vernon verticle mill with the head disassembled and 
without all of the parts.  These two images are of the shaft 
that will feed the spindle.  The large brass gear is an acme 
(I believe) gear and is driven by the fine feed.  This part 
of the mechanism doesn't work.  The coarse feed works fine.  
I just can't figure out how to make the fine feed work.  The 
brass acme gear rotates very nice on the shaft but doesn't 
come off.  The spindle gear is removable.  What am I missing?
