FILENAMES: Vice_Jaws2.jpg Vice_Jaws.jpg DESCRIPTION: These are drawings of special milling machine vice jaws. Posted by Gary H. Lucas . The following description was provided: ================================================================= This drawing shows an idea for a set of movable vice jaws to allow parts of varying lengths to be held such that both ends can always be faced off without refixturing. This would allow all machining on many parts to be completed in one operation. It also allows edge features to be accommodated without cutting into soft jaws. I envison some jaw segments being tightened down so they can't be moved. Other segments may have belleville washers to supply a little drag so they don't move real easy, but can be repositioned from part to part as the length changes. I could also see an engraved rule on the back jaw to allow positioning without reaching for a scale every time. It looks to me like the jaw segments and locking wedges would be easy wire EDM work, while the master jaw dovetails would be surface grinder work. Anybody interested in qouting a set of jaws like this? I don't expect they will be cheap but since they get reused endlessly they should pay in the long run. Gary H.
