The following description was provided: ================================================================= This is a Barbeque rotissrie spit I made for a forge-in a couple of years ago and have used it for a number of functions since. The main objective was to be cheap and it cost slightly less than hiring one for the weekend, but it has been used several times since. The case is made from a 2400*1200mm sheet of 16ga steel - half for the top and half for the bottom. The motor and gearbox came from the local rubbish dump. The wheels from the inorganic rubbish collection (lawnmower wheels). It has 2 burners - each one is made from 1" waterpipe. On one end, weld a plug with a grubscrew to take a 1/8" pipe nipple. tap the inside of the pipe nipple (or solder) to take a mig tip (1.2mm IIRC) as a gas jet and fit a ball valve to the other end to adjust the gas flow. The gas jet is on the centreline of the pipe. Cutaway 2 slots or big holes in the side of the pipe ~1" long and the gas jet comes level with the front of the hole. Plug the other end of the pipe and drill a series of holes along the pipe. I used 3mm (~1/8") but it would probably be better to have more holes but smaller. I have found it only needs one burner running, except if you are in a hurry to get it up to heat. If I made it again, I would only use one burner. it takes -3 hours to slow roast a lamb, and the burner is barely running I usually get boned lamb rolls as they are easier to carve and cook than the traditional beastie. geoff
