FILENAMES: fereedlathe.JPG fereedrear.JPG DESCRIPTION: These are pictures of an F. E Reed antique lathe. Posted by Michael Yocum . The following description was provided: ================================================================= Bought this lathe from a individual in Southeast PA. Originally described to me as a FE Reed 9x32" weighing about 500#. What I picked up was a 14x42" weighing 1500#. God Bless this man's math class. Here is what I know so far about this lathe: Stamped Serial #409 Stamped Patent Dates 2/7/1882, 12/22/1885, 9/4/1888 Cast in legs "FE Reed, Worcester, MA" Labeled "FE Reed & Co." on threading plate Dimensions: 14" swing over bed, 5.5" over slide 45" from face of chuck to live center Equipped with: 8" four jaw independent chuck 7" and 5" four jaw independent (needs help) elevating slide taper attachment steady rest face plate with drive center all threading gears? (missing second 44 tooth?) Kearney Engineering gearbox The lathe runs nice when I can get the crappy electric motor running. The carriage advances well on both the threading gears and the friction drive. All parts seem to be original except for the Kearney gearbox and a few nuts. She is cleaning off very w Thanks for your time. Mike Yocum michaelyocum@yahoo.com
